I am Deodge Hill, the founder of PH1LL incorporated also known as The PH1LL Foundation. The PH1LL Foundation is a nonprofit organization (501C3 in process) founded in 2015 with a mission to provide programs, resources, and scholarship opportunities to single mothers seeking to pursue a college education. The purpose of PH1LL is to help single mothers recognize their potential to attain excellence while being faced with challenges of being a single mother.
The foundation is named after my late husband, Patrick Hill. Patrick was a Detroit Police officer who passed in the line of duty on October 19, 2013. PH1LL was started in his honor to continue his legacy and provide resources to give back to the community that raised him, he lived for, and he ultimately gave his life for.
When I met Patrick during my undergraduate studies I was a single mother. Through great services and organizations providing resources to me, I was able to obtain my bachelor degree in 4 years. I would like to provide motivation and encouragement to any young parent that is faced with the challenge of raising a child alone and still figuring out how to obtain a college degree.
On behalf of the PH1LL Foundation, we would like to thank you for your support last year. The PH1LL 5k walk/run was a huge success. We raised over $11,000 to provide financial support to single mothers. I am proud to announce that after 1 year of being established we have provided 6 scholarships to single mothers. Far from what we wanted to provide, but it was a joy to see the single parents feel encouraged and know that they were doing the right thing in the midst of their situation. We are asking for your continued support. We would love to provide many more scholarships. We are looking to hold our next 5K walk/run on Saturday, April 1, 2017.
On this day we will be also honoring Wayne State University Police Officer, Collin Rose. Officer Rose dedicated his K-9 Wolverine in honor of Patrick’s sacrifice on October 19, 2016. The date that marked Officer Patrick Hill’s 3rd End of Watch anniversary. Just over 1 month after the dedication, Officer Rose was ambushed and passed away on November 23, 2016. April 1 is Officer Rose’s birthday and we will also celebrate his legacy and sacrifice this day. Some of the proceeds raised for the 5k will be donated to help assist in finding the person responsible for his death.
Thank you for your time and attention into helping me make a legacy honoring my husband and fulfilling a dream of giving back through sharing my story and motivating women who may not otherwise feel they can achieve more.
